WEBS, Webs - Search EnginesApril 25, 2007 12:00 am

Brainboost is an answer engine whereas Google is a Search engine.

What that means is that Brainboost actually finds answers to your questions posed in plain English as opposed to directing you to pages that simply mention the questions.

Brainboost, Using the AnswerRank™ system, intelligently reads hundreds of web pages derived from search results and extracts just the short and concise answer to your question, saving you time.

Following is a simplistic explanation showing the process of both engines

Google

    * User types in : “Why is mars red”
    * Google Search engine retrieves all pages containing words "mars" and red".
    * Search results are sorted by the number of links each one of them got from other pages. This is a good way to figure out which one of them is most trusted by others.
    * Results are displayed with the snippet being the appearance of the question on the pages
    * Typically, a user would then click on the first search result, read through the document and hope to find an answer.
    * If an answer is not found within the first search result, the user needs to repeat this process with the next search result, sometimes having to read many web pages to finally get at the answer.

Brainboost

    * User types in : “Why is mars red”
    * Brainboost translates the query into multiple queries that will raise the probability of finding the ANSWER to the question.
    * Brainboost retrieves search engine results.
    * Brainboost retrieves top several hundred pages and reads them.
    * Brainboost finds answers and ranks them based on it’s proprietary AnswerRank™ technology. AnswerRank™ knows to look at a set of many possible answers and rank them as to which one is probably the most correct. In this case: "Mars is red because of the iron in the soil"
    * Brainboost displays the ANSWERS to the user

This is another gadget for secret agents, a scanner disguised as a pen, the DocuPen.

The Planon DocuPen RC800 is a pen scanner with a difference, instead of having the scanning camera at the tip of the pen, the DocuPen has an electronic eye down the length of the pen. This means instead of scanning a block of text a line at a time you can scan an entire page in just one sweep.

The specs of the DocuPen are pretty sweet being able to do full color scans at up to 400DPI. Images are stored on the scanners internal 8MB (I never knew that size still existed) flash memory card, though this is fortunately upgradable to 1GB. So when you’re on a secret mission, you can whip out your DocuPen, scan that the enemies blue prints and wait until back at base before uploading to your PC.

The Wireless Bullet Camera is a wireless camera, with a highly sensitive microphone as well for audio.

The tiny camera has a built in 2.4 GHz transmitter which almost makes you wonder where they fit all the video and audio hardware! The receiver can receive data from the transmitter up to 25m away, or 50m outdoors! The included receiver comes with all the equipment you need to hook it up to a television or monitor at a safe distance to avoid detection. There are provided adapters for both the camera and the receiver, however the camera can just as easily be powered by a 9V battery.

With such tiny equipment you still get quite decent quality. The video camera records 356,000 pixels which is roughly half of the pixels displayed on a standard 1024×768 resolution monitor, while the microphone can capture audio from across rooms of most sizes.

Here’s an amazing gadget which combines solar power, motion sensing and security/spy camera! This security camera not only powers itself from the sun, it also can be programmed to record or alert you when it detects something moving!

When motion is detected, the camera’s PIR motion sensor immediately begins transmitting video and audio to the receiver. When the receiver receives the transmission it beeps twice then begins flashing an LED light for one minute so you will know when to watch what’s happening.

The camera has a solar panel on it which can power the camera all day as well as charging its internal rechargeable batteries so it can continue working overnight.

It can transmit from up to 250 feet away so probably the only limitation you would run into would be having to keep it outside. The camera transmits at 2.4GHz with a 90° horizontal field-of-view and a 45° vertical field-of-view.

A shelving system made from modular Tetris shaped boxes. It just like a Tetris game in your living room, only without the bottom row disappearing! The fun part is you can stack and arrange them however you want!

Each module of the multi-height Jojo candlestick snaps and hinges onto the next, making it a true construction toy. This mutable product can be built in infinite arrangements, either horizontally or vertically. The addition of glass tubes turns the candlesticks into bud vases. Jojo is conveniently packaged in sets including glass tubes, the sets can also be combined to create larger constructions.

A lot of Content and Links displayed on a webpage may not actually be visible to the Search Engines, eg. Flash based content,  content generated through javascript,  content displayed as images etc.

This tool Simulates a Search Engine by displaying the contents of a webpage exactly how a Search Engine would see it.

It also displays the hyperlinks that will be followed (crawled) by a Search Engine when it visits the particular webpage.
